Illinois Floods

Mercury Insurance is committed to providing our policyholders with the help they need during the flooding crisis that has affected large portions of the state of Illinois. Our team is standing by to process your claims during this difficult time so that you and your family can get back to normal as quickly as possible.

With this in mind, Mercury has implemented new temporary procedures to help those affected by this disaster.

  • Mercury has extended the deadline by an additional 60 days for affected policyholders to report a loss, file a claim, make approved repairs, or meet any other policy provisions.
  • Mail service has been disrupted throughout much of the state and many policyholders may not have received bills and renewal notices, so Mercury will not cancel or non-renew any policies for affected policyholders until after August 18, 2008, unless you request it. For any cancellations and non-renewals that have already been mailed to affected policyholders by the company since June 10, 2008, we will reinstate the policies without any lapse in coverage.
  • Mercury will continue to send bills during the moratorium period from June 10, 2008 until August 18, 2008, however, we will not cancel or non-renew the policy of any affected policyholder due to non-payment during this timeframe. This temporary provision does not relieve policyholders of their responsibility to pay premiums, but it is designed to allow affected policyholders additional time to make those payments while trying to recover from the disaster.

Affected policyholders are defined as those policyholders residing in or owning insured property in counties that have been declared to be disaster areas by Governor Rod R. Blagojevich or President George W. Bush. A list of counties in Illinois declared as disaster areas can be found at http://www.ready.illinois.gov.

Policyholders residing in Illinois counties that have not officially been declared a disaster area, who, nevertheless, have been adversely impacted by flooding, may still qualify as an affected policyholder. Please contact Mercury at phone number (800) 503-3724 to discuss your individual situation. We are here to assist you during this difficult time.

Illinois consumers who want to file a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue may contact the Illinois Division of Insurance by calling the Division's toll-free complaint hotline at (866) 445-5364 or by filing a complaint online at http://www.idfpr.com/doi/Complaints/Complaints.asp.
